Dr. Plante received her medical degree from Laval University in 1985 and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill University in 1990. She then completed a three-year fellowship training in Gynecologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York in 1993. Since then she has been on staff at l'Hôtel-Dieu de Québec.
Dr. Plante is currently Full Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Laval University. She is Chief of the Gynecologic Oncology Division at Laval University and Head of the clinical research in gynecologic oncology at L’Hôtel-Dieu de Québec. She is also director of the fellowship program in gynecologic oncology at Laval University.
Dr. Plante has major interest in minimally invasive surgical (MIS) approaches in the treatment of gynecologic cancers and in fertility-preserving surgery for young women with cervical cancer. She has written numerous articles on the subject and several book chapters on the surgical technique. She has been involved with several postgraduate courses to teach the procedure and has lectured at several local, national and international meetings on the subject.
Dr. Plante is co-chair of the Cervix Cancer Working Group for the NCI (Canada). She is member of the Gynecologic InterGroup (GCIG) and member of the steering committee of the Cervical Cancer Network. Dr Plante is involved internationally with the evaluation of less radical surgery in early stage cervical cancer. She is leading an international randomized trial comparing standard versus less radical surgery in low risk patients under the NCIC-CTG (SHAPE-CX-5 trial).
Dr. Plante was President of The Society of Gynecologic Oncology of Canada (GOC) from 2008-2010, and was co-chair of the CCOCR meeting in Quebec City in 2012.
