Honami Naora was born in Japan and raised in Australia. She obtained her Ph.D. in molecular biology in 1994 from the Australian National University in Canberra. She performed post-doctoral studies at the Pasteur Institute in Paris and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. In 2002, she was recruited as an Assistant Professor to the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2007.
